While most of our treatment at Altius Physical Therapy takes place in person, we understand that getting to the clinic isn’t always possible.
For patients whose circumstances or treatment needs make an office visit difficult, telehealth may provide an alternative or supplement to in-person physical therapy.
Virtual appointments allow us to guide patients through exercises, discuss symptoms, assess movement, and make adjustments to their rehabilitation programs through live video sessions.
Telehealth isn’t appropriate for every condition, but it can be a useful option in certain situations.
Telehealth appointments take place through a live video connection using a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
Depending on your condition and treatment goals, a virtual session may include:
Discussion of symptoms, progress, and functional limitations
Guided movement and mobility assessments
Supervised therapeutic exercises with real-time feedback
Modifications to your home exercise program
Education about activity modifications and symptom management
Recommendations for progressing your exercises between appointments
These sessions are individualized based on your current needs, just as they would be during an in-person appointment.
For some patients, telehealth works best as a supplement to traditional physical therapy.
An initial evaluation at our Park Ridge office allows us to perform a more comprehensive physical assessment and determine an appropriate treatment plan.
When appropriate, certain follow-up appointments may be conducted virtually, particularly when treatment focuses on exercise progression, education, and reviewing your home program.
Other aspects of rehabilitation, including hands-on manual therapy and treatments requiring specialized equipment, are better suited to in-person visits.
Our preference is always to recommend the approach that best fits your condition and rehabilitation goals.
Virtual physical therapy may be an option for patients who have difficulty traveling to the clinic, need occasional scheduling flexibility, or would benefit from supervised exercise and guidance between in-person appointments.
However, some conditions require hands-on examination, specialized equipment, or closer in-person supervision.
We’ll discuss whether a virtual appointment makes sense based on your symptoms, progress, and individual circumstances.
Telehealth is offered on a limited, case-by-case basis rather than as a routine replacement for in-person treatment.
Insurance coverage for virtual physical therapy varies by plan and current payer requirements.
If you’re interested in telehealth, we can review your circumstances, discuss insurance coverage and anticipated costs, and determine whether a virtual appointment is appropriate and available.
Our primary focus at Altius is personalized, hands-on physical therapy at our Park Ridge clinic. When circumstances make an office visit difficult, we’re happy to discuss whether telehealth could be a reasonable option.
