Staying in the saddle with our cycling diagnosic and evaluation

cycling

Since 2020, cycling has exploded in popularity.  Waves of new riders, young and old,. are hitting the streets for all kinds of purposes – Commuting, recreation, racing and mountain biking.  It’s especially popular in Bergen County, as many popular local routes pass through nearby towns and serve an extensive cycling community that reaches as far as NYC and Bear Mountain.

At Altius, we’re combining our personal experience in the sport of cycling with our knowledge of the body to help keep you on the road.

What Is The Cycling Diagnostic?

The cycling diagnostic is a head to examination and evaluation of your body mechanics as it relates to cycling.

First, we’ll gather a full history on your cycling habits and goals as well as pinpoint nagging injuries and discomforts.  We’ll dig for any information on your bike setup and cross training methods.

Then, we’ll then walk you through our battery of tests that examine your range of motion, flexibility, mobility, strength and coordination.  If possible, we’ll have you bring your bike and set you up on a trainer to watch you ride.

Finally, we’ll take our results and educate you on areas of strength and weakness.  We’ll provide you with a solution to address these issues, including exercises, training modifications and advise you on basic bike setup modifications.

Note, this is not a full bike fitting. For a fitting, we’ll refer you to one of the many talented certified bike fitters in the area, who can take our findings and implement more thorough changes to your setup (if needed).

What Will I receive at the end?

Education, tangible solutions and a plan.

First, you’ll have a full understanding of where your body needs work and why it’s a vulnerability to your cycling.  You will also understand the mechanics of the body as it relates to cycling and have a clear goal to work towards.

Second, we will provide you with a set of exercises aimed at your specific areas of weakness and modifications to try to make your training and riding safer and more efficient.

Understanding the what, how and why of the body mechanics opens the door to pushing your potential higher or simply enjoying an activity without contending with overuse injuries.

How Much is it?

Insurance does not cover the cycling diagnostic unless it is a part of a rehabilitation program already in place (i.e coming for a knee injury with goals to return to riding).

The diagnostic is $99, if uncovered.
