Gait Training: Breaking down your stride

gait training

The term gait refers to a pattern in which someone walks. Gait training is teaching someone to walk or run more effectively.

We can tell a lot about someone by studying their gait such as changes in gait that reflect pain, orthopedic and neurological conditions. Identifying the drivers of gait compensation allows us to avoid future injury, reduce current dysfunction and enable a safer, more efficient way of ambulating.

Gait training and analysis is a vital part of many different rehab programs. We’ll teach post operative patients to walk properly again, improve balance and confidence in those that have a high fall risk and study running gait for those training to achieve higher.

We utilize video and gait analysis software to visualize changes, educate on their impacts and track changes as we work to improve. With the assistance of the video, we’re able to slow down your movement and pinpoint areas of concern.  By adding the context of our usual biomechanical exam, we can find real time changes that are likely contributors to pain or dysfunction. It’s a powerful tool in the arsenal to get you moving better
